Where to watch Indian movies?

Indian Cinema has a worldwide audience, thanks to the widespread presence of its diaspora. Just like the country, the movies and TV series are varied in language. Indian movies come out in about 15 major languages and they churn out the highest number of movies in the world. In fact, India produces more movies a year than the rest of the world put together.

As expected, the standards of moviemaking and the storytelling techniques are quite different from Hollywood or its British counterparts. But, it is entertaining nevertheless. Most of the movies have a number of song and dance sequences in them. This could be irritating or entertaining, depending on how you see it.

If you not in India, you can still enjoy Indian movies. There are several streaming sites that legally allow you to watch Indian movies, irrespective of your location.

Hotstar is the Indian equivalent of Netflix. Though it doesn’t even come close to the level of technology and intuitiveness of the American Streaming service, Hotstar has a great collection of Indian movies and TV series. Movies are available in Hindi, Tamil, Telegu, Bengali, Malayalam and several other languages. It also has TV channels in different languages. Pricewise, Hotstar is really affordable, and it is available on PC, Mac and smartphones.

SonyLIV is a product of Sony Pictures, one of India’s biggest production houses and TV networks. It contains TV series, movies, music videos and other material from eight of its subsidiary TV stations. In simple terms, they have a huge collection of movies and music and TV series. But the content is available only in Hindi, English and Tamil. It currently boasts of about 25 millions views monthly across its platform.

  1. JioCinema

JioCinema is one of the newest, but biggest platform to watch Indian movies. It a part of Jio network, which started recently, and is now considered the world’s biggest mobile network. To watch movies and TV series on Jio, you will need access to a Jio sim card.

  1. Erosnow

Erosnow is another platform like SonyLIV. But the advantage of this platform is that it has movies from almost a dozen Indian languages. They have rights to over 5000 movies and 250k music records from over 13 different labels. It is available across multiple devices and subscription plans are very affordable.

Apart from these, there are several smaller sites that stream movies and TV series in some specific Indian languages.
